It's interesting to read comments stating that the minidisplay port is not thunderbolt, which is a valid point. Why then do HYPER advertise a Thunderbolt display connected through their device at this link on their website? https://www.hypershop.com/collections/usb-c-hubs/products/hyperdrive-usb-type-c-hub-with-mini-displayport?variant=14239223174

Not one manufacturer seems to make this sort of thing where it doesn't block the headphone port if used on the right.. Missed opportunity right there.. why won't someone make one that is flush with the top USB C port.. Oh well.. I really wanted to use on the right, I have one coming in the mail anyway (the non pro).

Thunderbolt 2 and mDP (Mini Displayport) are two different things so make sure if you buy a dongle for thunderbolt 2 that it say explicitly that it is Thunderbolt 2 if it does not say that then it is only mini displayport. The dongle in this video is "mDP" Mini Displayport NOT Thunderbolt 2. It doesn't claim to be thunderbolt 2 either but that is an easy mistake that could be made since Thunderbolt 1 & 2 used the Mini Displayport port. But just like Thunderbot 3 and USB-C are different Thunderbolt 1 & 2 and mini displayport are two completly different things.

Hopefully you have figured out that what you refer to as a "Thunderbolt" port on the hub is actually a "mini-Display" port, which will NOT drive your Apple Thunderbolt Display, even though the connectors and ports look the same.

I have been planning to buy this product for my MacBook Pro on a big promotion day like Thanksgiving or Black Friday, but I haven't received any discount Email from HYPER until now… alas…$79.99 is a little expensive for me

Is this dock still working for you? I’d love to get this, but I’m worried about its long term durability.

Thanks for the review. With no mic plug, how could you hook up an external audio source for recording? Thanks again.

Great video Javier! It was super helpful 🙂

I have a Mayoyo hub for my macbook pro and I'm a little disappointed by it, but after watching this video I've decided to get the Hyperdrive duo! The Mayoyo hub has the same ports as the Hyperdrive duo except one of the usb-c ports is just a regular one (not a thunderbolt 3). This means I can't connect a monitor or even charge my macbook through it lol. Those are the 2 uses I need it for so now i only have 1 usb-c port that I actually use, so I understand how you feel about that thunderbolt 2 port haha

My setup is similar to yours in how I have my macbook on a laptop stand and I've found my Mayoyo hub tends to sag downward due to the weight of all the cables connected to it. It has slightly longer usb-c connectors to the macbook so it can be used with a case, which I think is why it sags because I don't even have a case. I think it's sturdy nonetheless but I'm scared its going to eventually break from the weight of the cables and no support underneath since its on a laptop stand. I also noticed the Mayoyo hub gets really hot no matter what I'm using it for (even plugging in just my keyboard and mouse). Do you have these problems/ worries for your Hyperdrive?

I agree with having one port for everything. We wouldn’t need these hubs and we wouldn’t have to worry about it blocking the audio jack. The thing with Apple is they like to jump the gun with their technology, but now we can’t plug our devices into their products!

Sorry for the super long comment I hope this helps others planning to buy hubs in some way. Again thanks for making this video and thank you for reading! Subbed 🙂

Its does say on the amazon product page for that adapter that the mini display port which uses the same connector as Thunderbolt version 1 and 2 does not support Thunderbolt display or storage
